Description

A team of clearance divers from HMAS Diamantina prepares to check the underside of HMAS Brunei for damage. One diver is already in the water while another checks his Scuba equipment. The other four divers remain to assist on the Diamantina’s inflatable diving boat. The Brunei and Diamantina were docked at Honiara port while in service with Operation Anode, Australia’s contribution to the multi-national Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). HMAS Diamantina, a Huon class coastal mine hunter, had a six member team of clearance divers. As well as carrying out inspection work on amphibious landing craft such as the Brunei, the divers were able to use their mine clearance expertise to decommission weapons and explosives, including many remaining from the Second World War battle of Guadalcanal.
