Darge Photographic Company collection of negatives
Portrait of W H Miller, probably 7267 Private (Pte) William Herbert Parsons Miller, a storekeeper from Apollo Bay, Victoria. Pte Miller embarked from Melbourne with the 24th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion, aboard HMAT Ballarat (A70) on 19 February 1917. During his service he transferred to the 1st Machine Gun Battalion, with the amended service number 7267A. Pte Miller returned to Australia on 24 January 1919. Miller also served in the Second World War. This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had a permit to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers' notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative. The names are transcribed as they appear in the notebooks. See also DACS0810A.
