Studio portrait of QX5495 Corporal (Cpl) Alick Else, 2/15 Battalion, of Brisbane, Qld. Cpl Else was awarded the Military Medal (MM) on 5 November 1942 for 'Conspicuous bravery and outstanding leadership'. Later promoted to the rank of Sergeant, he was also awarded the Bar to MM for 'Notable courage and courageous leadership' at Kumawa on 10 February 1944. The Bar to the Military Medal was only awarded to five servicemen in the Second World War.
