Description

Australian Army other ranks khaki wool serge winter service dress tunic with a pair of pleated breast pockets and a pair of expanding patch waist pockets. The pockets have flaps secured by brass 'Australian Military Forces' buttons. The tunic is secured at the front by four brass AMF buttons. It also has an integral waist band and a vertical box pleat down the back. A brass 'Rising Sun' general service badge is attached to each side of the collar and the shoulder straps each bear a brass AIF 'AUSTRALIA' shoulder title. A colour patch of 2/3 Pioneer Battalion is sewn to the upper sleeve. The right sleeve also has a pair of corporal's chevrons on the upper arm and a three years overseas service chevron above the cuff. The inside of the tunic is unlined and has a makers label on the right which gives the date and size (14) as well as the handwritten name and number 'NX28127 GAHAN'.

History / Summary

NX28127 Corporal Neville Albert Gahan was born in Maroubra, NSW in April 1917. On 4 June 1941 he enlisted in the Second AIF. He served overseas with the 2/3 Pioneer Battalion which saw action in both the North African and New Guinea campaigns. He was discharged on 25 January 1946.
