History / Summary
On 8 November 1918, Forewoman Alice Rose Winterton was Mentioned in Despatches by Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig for 'gallant and distinguished services in the field'. Winterton, regimental number 1860, served during the war with the Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps, including a period with a medical unti in France. During the war she met an Australian soldier, 2271 James (Jim) Davidson, 13 Field Company Australian Army Service Corps (AASC). They were married on 1 March 1919 in the parish church of St Bartholemew, in the District of Reading. She then emigrated to Australia with her husband.
