At the time of writing Private George was convalescing in Dorset, England, after being wounded in action. He writes to his younger brother Stanley in Australia, describing the weather in England and his concerns about his eventual return home. He writes, "I am afraid I will have to do a lot of studying and hard graft, when I get back".
