Two German army other ranks shoulder straps : 184th Infantry Regiment
Description
Two field grey wool shoulder straps, with narrow white wool piping around the sides and top, and a machine stitched buttonhole at the neck end. A red wool chain stitch numeral '184' is sewn to each strap.
History / Summary
Shoulder straps were routinely removed from dead or captured Germans for intelligence purposes, so that the names of the German units opposing the Allied forces could be established.
These shoulder straps were collected by members of the 22nd Battalion, AIF, at Ville-sur-Ance, on 19 May 1918.
