History / Summary

This badge was worn on the left breast on flying clothing and on the right sleeve in civilian clothes, by Alan Ernest Buzacott during his training at the New South Wales Aviation School at Richmond, near Sydney, between July and October 1918. He was a member of the 6th class run by the School and obtained his aviator's certificate on 25 October 1918. In 1916 the NSW Government opened the flying school at Richmond to prepare civilian pilots for service in either the Australian Flying Corps or the Royal Flying Corps. The School remained in operation until 1919. Although Buzacott qualified as a pilot he graduated too late to be able to serve in the First World War.
