Irvin flying jacket : Acting Squadron Leader R H Perkins, RAAF
Brown leather Irvin flying jacket lined with a thick layer of sheepskin. The jacket has a high collar and long sleeves with brass zippers running from the wrist to the elbow along the inner arm. A triangular leather patch with several ventilation holes is placed under each armpit. The jacket fastens by a brass zip up the centre and a belt with a metal buckle at the waist. When turned up, the collar is secured across the throat by a buckled leather strap.
Worn by 265587 Flight Lieutenant Russell Herbert Perkins. Perkins was born in Toowoomba, Queensland in January 1903 and enlisted in the RAAF on 15 July 1940. He was commissioned to Flight Lieutenant on 1 December 1943 and was temporarily promoted Acting Squadron Leader on 4 September 1944. He was discharged on 5 February 1946 as a flight lieutenant.
