Description

Private Mervyn Hains records a letter for his sister, Helen and brother-in-law Russell, with comments for other members of his family also. He describes the some of his experiences in Vietnam; patrolling, ambushes, as well as R&C [rest and convalescence]. He is the platoon signaller and describes his radio set and other kit and what his role is as signaller. Discusses upcoming Christmas and his anticipated arrival home in March and discharge from the Army in April 1971. Pte Hains was wounded just days after this letter was recorded on 2 December, but stayed in Vietnam until 7RAR returned to Australia in March 1971.
