Description

Full dress tunic of a major of the New South Wales Volunteer Engineers. Dark blue wool superfine tunic is lined with quilted cream silk in the body, with a concealed pocket inside the left front, and with cream wool on the skirt. The inside waist is reinforced with a band of red morocco leather. Tunic has scarlet stand collar and pointed cuffs, with scarlet piping down the front, on the lower edge of the tunic, and on the artificial vents at the back. The collar is edged with silver lace and braid and has gold embroidered exploding grenade badges. The sleeves are heavily decorated with silver lace and Russia braid Austrian knots for the rank of major. Heavy silver braid epaulettes have embroidered major's rank crowns. All the buttons on the tunic are silver New South Wales Military Forces ones, made by C Anderson, Sydney.
