Description

Australian Army private's khaki wool serge service dress jacket with stand and fall collar, pleated breast pockets with pointed flaps and large expanding pockets, also with pointed flaps, over each hip. The front of the jacket, cuffs and shoulder straps are fastened with brown celluloid buttons. A self-fabric belt, lined with khaki cotton, is sewn around the waist and fastens with a brass slide. The slide is secured by a buttoned tab. A box pleat extends from the back yoke to the bottom of the skirt for ease of wear. The back of the jacket is also pleated loosely into the belt.The 'Rising Sun' general service collar badges, curved 'AUSTRALIA' and straight 'INF' shoulder titles are oxidised copper. There are wool flannel colour patches for 23 Battalion, AIF, sewn to the head of each sleeve. Above the left sleeve cuff are four brass wound stripes. Three of the stripes are backed by a single brass plate. There is a lewis gunner's embroidered wool proficiency badge ('LG' within a wreath) sewn to the left sleeve above the wound stripes.
