Description

Punmanjom. Just released allied prisoners of war (POWs), wearing blue overcoats, climb into US Army ambulances for the short ride to a field hospital for initial medical assessments. They had just passed through the tents at left where their names and condition were recorded. Further left and out of sight are a row of North Korean or Chinese buses carrying other prisoners awaiting their turn. They have been repatriated as part of Operation Little Switch at Punmanjom. This photograph is one of a series taken by Australian Mr Douglas (Doug) Bushby in his capacity as a UN accredited War Correspondent. Mr Bushby devoted much of his time to missionary work amongst Korean refugees, orphans and North Korean and Chinese prisoners of war.
