The soldier with the heavy load is 41238 Private (Pte) Alan Charles 'Darky' Edwards, of the 1st battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). Pte Edwards, who is from Coburn on the NSW/SA border has been in the Regular Army since he was 17½. He is 20 now, and has been in Korea for three months as a storeman for 1RAR. In civilian life Pte Edwards was a boundary rider. He was known in Adelaide as an Aussie Rules goalkeeper for the West Adelaide Colts.
