Description

All the soldiers of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) were working against time to build themselves a hutted camp before their white Christmas set in in Korea. The C Company men were sufficiently in front of schedule to add finishing touches to their recreation hut and get it looking bright and colourful for the festive season. Thanks to 14608 Private (Pte) Phillip Kenneth (Phil) Daniel, who wields a very skilful paint brush, they even have murals on the walls of the Quonset hut. Here Pte Daniel, who was a sign-writer and ticket-writer before joining the Australian Army, puts the finishing touches to the Company's Christmas tree, which is set up against a typically Australian mural with a Ned Kelly motif. Pte Daniel comes from Brisbane, Qld.
