Description

Sharing a weapon pit during field training in Korea are 27798 Private (Pte) Maurice Elwyn Coombes (right), of Port Macquarie, NSW, and 13439 Pte James Desmond (Des) Tickle of Charleville, Qld. Both men are in B Company, 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). They are being instructed in new training methods copied from the US Army, for teaching men how to handle weapons at night. The men are unable to use the sights of the weapons as they are bound with cloth. Pte Tickle has been in Korea for two months, but previously spent several months in Japan. Pte Coombes is due to return home soon after serving in Korea for nearly a year.
