South Korean soldiers have been for some time serving with Australian units in Korea. At present there are 35 attached to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). they have the same status as Australian soldiers. They share their quarters, train with them, and wear the same uniform. Here the 2 inch mortar team, participating in a training exercise, is made up of Private (Pte) Ron Nicholson (right), of B Company, 1RAR, and Pte Shin Kipchou, also of B Company. Pte Nicholson comes from Mildura, Vic, and has been in Korea for three months. Pte Kipchou, who is just about to load a bomb in the mortar, comes from Seoul. he has served with Australian units for two years, and was previously in the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army. (Pte Ron Nicholson is probably 28181 Ronald Arthur Nicholson).
