Description

'Shotgun guards' are now the order of the day with the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), in Korea. Parties of armed bandits living up in the hills near the truce line have frequently held up and robbed army drivers, and have even staged raids on camps. So 1RAR now ensures that every driver travelling far from camp has an armed escort sitting next to him. Here 'shotgun guard', 13409 Private (Pte) Arthur Leslie (Les) Gooch, of Longreach, Qld, is passing his bedding roll up to driver, 12435 Pte Charles William Davey, of Wondai, Qld, before they set out on a trip. Both men have been in Korea for about six months.
