On leave in Tokyo from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), which is at present stationed in Korea is 1640 Sergeant (Sgt) Charles George 'Chick' Shaw of Brisbane, Qld. Here, Sgt Shaw finds the price of crockery displayed in this store bewildering. None of the pieces shown here are over 25 yen (five pence); and much more of the store's stock is priced at 10 yen (two pence). Sgt Shaw has been in the Army for eight years (eight months in Japan and Korea) and was a drover for the Prospect Station, Croydon, North Queensland before joining the Army.
