Description

Documentary produced by Juniper Films about five people's experiences during and after the Vietnam War using period films and images, re-enactments and contemporary interviews. Australian soldier Brian Day talks of training the South Vietnamese, his experiences in combat situations, the use of defoliants and his return to Vietnam as part of the Australia-Vietnam Society. Geoff Shaw, an Aboriginal soldier and a member of 9 RAR talks about the personal and political difficulties he faced both during and after the war. Greg Lockhart who served with AATTV (Australian Army Training Team Vietnam) talks on the political aspects of the war and his subsequent scholarly interest in Vietnamese history. An Veng a Cambodian who was befriended by Australian cameraman Neil Davis and became his driver speaks of his experience working with him and his sadness upon learning of his death. Monique Hoa Phan talks of the reliance of Saigon on American dollars once the war had begun, on coming to Australia on a scholarship to learn English, her becoming an English tutor with the Adult Migrant Education Service and her marriage to Greg Lockhart.
