Studio portrait of Herman Van Gelder . He and his family were interned in camps in the Netherlands East Indies. The family was interned firstly by the Japanese at a military prisoner of war camp in Burma and later by the Indonesians. The rest of the family were separated from their father who was sent to a men's camp. The family was able to reunite with the help of the Red Cross.
