Shoulder title : Aircraft Mechanic 2nd Class H J Marston, Australian Flying Corps
Brass 'AUSTRALIA' shoulder title with loops soldered to reverse and the maker's name impressed into it.
Worn by 1478 Aircraft Mechanic Class 2 Henry James Marston, Australian Flying Corps, of Brunswick, Victoria. An instrument fitter by trade, Marston enlisted on 10 October 1916 aged 22 and after initial training at Laverton, embarked for overseas service from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire on 11 May 1917. Upon arrival in England, he continued his training at Farnborough and Halton Camp East, Wendover from 28 July until November 1917. On 22 November he crossed the Channel to France, being posted to 69 Squadron AFC (later to be redesignated 3 Squadron AFC in January 1918), then based at Bailleul. Marston remained with 3 Squadron until mid 1919, and returned to Australia aboard the transport Kaiser-i-hind. He was discharged on 16 July 1919.
