Description
Two Light Horse members of the Australian 1937 Coronation Contingent, Lewis David Price (left) and Frank Gilson (right), pose on camels in front of the Sphinx with their local guides. During the First World War thousands of Australian soldiers had their photographs taken in front of the Pyramids or the Sphinx. 494 Lewis David Price and 497 Francis Archibald (Frank) Gilson both served with the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance during the First World War. After a series of medical problems during his service, including frostbite, influenza and middle ear infections, Gilson was discharged medically unfit in late 1918.
