Description

Collection compiled by Eva Small, civilian, of Indooroopilly, Brisbane, 1943-1945. Collection consists of a notebook containing 672 records of shortwave messages recorded in 1943. The messages were intercepted by Eva Small and recorded alphabetically by name of soldier. Eva would then contact the next of kin and relay the message via letter or phone call. The collection also contains two short letters of appreciation from relatives of prisoners SX6962 Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Blackburn and NX38720 Corporal Maxwell Morris.

History / Summary

The shortwave radio messages were sent by Australian Prisoners of War to their families by either recording a message or having their messages read aloud on air. Eva originally just contact the relevant family but after a few replies condensed it down to a book.
