Collection relates to the Vietnam War service of Trooper Mervyn Edwin Chambers, 1RAR, Vietnam 1969.
Wallet 1 of 1 - consists of one handwritten letter from Chambers to Miss Jill Schurmann, his friend in Australia dated 11 December 1969. The letter is written on Chambers' first day in Vietnam. He details the flight from Tan Sohn Nuit airport to Nui Dat on an American plane and writes about how flat the Vietnamese countryside is except for the bomb craters. Chambers writes that Vietnam was has been quiet over the past few months and they are expecting another Tet Offensive soon. He asks how Jill likes being a high school teacher and apologises for any bugs in the letter. He describes the cost of living in Vietnam, in particular beer and cigarettes, and writes about how he is saving money.
