Description
Round serving dish made from beaten brass with a raised lip. The dish is engraved with Egyptian motifs similar to friezes found in ancient monuments.
History / Summary
This dish was brought home from the Middle East as a souvenir by VX6521 Lance Corporal Peter Joseph Donnelly from Gerogery, NSW. Born in Glasgow, Scotland in September 1908, Donelly enlisted in the Second AIF in Wangaratta, Victoria on 27 October 1939. He served overseas with 3 Ordnance Workshop Company and was discharged on 4 October 1945. His brother-in-law, VX6414 Private David Millay of 2/8 Battalion was killed in action in Greece on 12 April 1941.
