Studio portrait of 912 Sergeant (later Company Sergeant Major) William Thomas Jarrott, 37th Battalion of Wangaratta, Victoria. A teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Persic (A34) on 3 June 1916. It is believed, he was killed in action on 7 June 1917 during the battle of Messines, Belgium, aged 21. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
