Egyptian souvenir handkerchief
Description
White silk chiffon souvenir handkerchief with a double sided, colour printed chiffon border 30mm wide, applied with drawn threadwork. The border shows repeat scenes of soldiers fighting on foot, horseback and in the air, as well as a truck bearing German soldiers. The lower left hand corner is printed with the pyramids, Sphinx and crossed Allied flags within a laurel wreath entitled 'THE ALLIES'. Above the wreath, printed in red, is 'PORT SAID. PRESENT'.
History / Summary
This handkerchief is a typical example of Egyptian souvenirs sent back to Australia by AIF troops.
