Warrant Officer Class 2 Paul Petter, a member of the Civil Military Co-operation (CIMIC) team ...
Warrant Officer Class 2 Paul Petter, a member of the Civil Military Co-operation (CIMIC) team (right), and two members of the English Light Dragoons walking through a crowded local market place as part of the assessment process to determine whether CIMIC could assist with upgrading the market facilities. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, veterinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations, and usually paid local contractors to complete the work. The CIMIC team consisted of three members, all of whom are part of the Army Reserve, and were usually accompanied by a four man infantry bodyguard, however at this time they were also accompanied by Military Policeman, Warrant Officer Class 1 Greg Westhead, who undertook a more discrete security role. Note the drainage ditch running through the middle of the walkway and the cuts of meat hanging in the open air.
