The left side of a window launching machine, Mk 1a, resting on a bomb trolley. This equipment was constructed by personnel from 199 Squadron, RAF, and was used operationally from 1945 as a countermeasure against German radar. The machine was designed by 424778 Flight Lieutenant Charles Joseph Merryfull, RAAF. The machine has been fitted with two 1000 pound Universal Bomb Carriers (left, complete, right, modified). The launcher was used to automatically dispense packets of window strips at varying air speeds. The machine was fitted in the bomb bay of RAF aircraft including the Short Stirling III and Handley Page Halifax B III bomber aircraft.
