Description
The release of a bundle of CHRI (also known as American ropes) from a window launching machine Mk 1a. Two ropes from the previous bundle can be seen in the background. Dropping speed: 20 bundles per minute; air speed: 160 miles per hour (257 km per hour); height: 2000 ft (610 metres). The machine was constructed by personnel of 199 Squadron, RAF, and was used operationally from 1945 as a countermeasure against German radar. The machine was designed by 424778 Flight Lieutenant Charles Joseph Merryfull, RAAF.
