Remains of a Lewis Light Machine Gun found at Pozieres : 6 Battalion, AIF
Remains of a Lewis Light Machine Gun. Badly rusted and damaged. Missing the butt and barrel jacket. The barrel and cooling fins are bent from possibly being run over by a vehicle. The centre disc from a 47 round ammunition drum magazine is still attached to the top of the gun. There is some white paint on the heel of the pistol grip.
This gun was used by the 6th Battalion AIF and found near the crossing of Chalk Pit Road and First Aid Trench at Pozieres on 16 August 1917.
