Case for folding tent lantern : Lone Pine, Gallipoli
Rectangular case for a folding tent lantern. The lid can be pulled off the base, but was originally remained attached to it by two leather straps (now absent). An oval maker's mark is soldered to the front of the base and reads 'BULPITT & SONS / BIRMINGHAM' with 'LTD / 1915' in the centre.
This case for a folding tent lantern was found on 20 February 1919 in the Australian trenches at Lone Pine by the Australian Historical Mission on 23 February 1919. The Mission, led by Official Historian C E W Bean, visited Gallipoli in February and March 1919 to collect items for the nation, to record the area through artworks and photographs, and to explore the battlefields to answer some of the 'riddles of Anzac' for the Australian official history of the war.
