Modified Maxim MG08 Heavy Machine Gun
Description
German Maxim MG08 Heavy Machine Gun. Rectangular box section receiver with a water cooled jacket covering the barrel and has an armoured shield plate behind the cone muzzle. The top cover is marked with the serial number over MG08 and the fuzzee spring cover is not marked. The left side is fitted with a dial sight bracket and the top plate has a double rear leaf sights. It is missing the breech block, both oil brushes from the grips and condenser pipe outlets. Overall blued steel.
History / Summary
This weapon is not dated and has a double rear anti aircraft sight as well as a modified trigger mechanism. It is assumed that the gun has been improved or remanufactured for the pre 1939 German Army. It was sent to Australia in 1946.
