On patrol during Operation Atherton, a section of 1 Platoon, A Company, 8RAR, stops for a rest or to bivouac for the night. The soldiers are, left to right: possibly 3794423 Private (Pte) Raymond John Asmus; unknown; 2790913 Pte Graeme Colin Piltz, the platoon signaller, who is carrying a field radio on his back. Operation Atherton, the battalion's first in Vietnam, is a reconnaissance and ambush operation in the northwest of the province.
