German 38 cm (15 inch) shell fragment, Proyart
Description
Lower section of a German 15 inch (38 centimetre) shell, including the twin driving bands. The artillery piece which fired this was probably a 38 cm SK L/45 cm, similar to the example captured by Australian troops at Chuignes.
History / Summary
This large, lower section of German 15 inch shell, including its driving band, was found at Proyart on 27 August 1918 by members of the 20th Battalion, AIF.
