Description
Improvised draughts board 17 inches x 17 inches made out of timber salvaged from the ruined church and convent at Baupaume. The oak was taken from the organ or organ seat in the church, and the inlaid squared were from a portion of a nun's wardrobe from the convent. The board is engraved wit the names of battles and locations with which the 7th Infantry Brigade was associated: ARMENTIERES, FLERS, ALBERT, POZIERES, BAPAUME, BULLECOURT, MESSINES, YPRES.
History / Summary
Following the capture of Bapaume, Sergeant George Mackie, of the 7th Brigade headquarters, made a game board out of timber from the ruined church and convent. He added the names of places where the brigade had served during 1916 and 1917.
