After a brief contact with a single Viet Cong (VC) fighter along a jungle trail in Phuoc Tuy Province during Operation Ingham, an unidentified patrol leader (holding radio handset, left) of 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (6RAR), anxiously waits for reports from his forward troops before calling in the contact and possibly requesting artillery support on the AN/PRC 25 wireless set, carried by his signaller, who is lying next to him (right). The VC was pursued by the leading elements of the patrol group and was shot dead. Artillery support was not called. A Mosin Nagant Model 1944 rifle and one anti personnel mine were recovered and deactivated. The soldier (left) is retrieving a belt of linked 7.62 mm ammunition from over his shoulder. The patrol leader is armed with a 5.56 mm M16A1 automatic rifle.
