Description
A mustard gas evaporation point set up in the savannah at the Permanent Chemical Warfare Station, Gunyarra, Proserpine. A small metal drum which is probably protecting a heat source sits on a wooden platform. A stand over the drum supports a metal container with an inverted funnel shaped top and two handles for transportation. From the sealed cover over the mouth of the funnel comes a pipe for releasing the gas into the atmosphere. A metal watering can is strung up and supported by four metal stakes surrounding the evaporation apparatus. Testing of chemical warfare gasses was done by the 1st Field Trials Company, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE).
