Collection relating to the Second World War service of 4570 Flight Lieutenant Arthur Edward Jaggs, 12 Squadron and 30 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and New Guinea, 1940-1970.

Wallet 1 of 2 – Consists of one observer’s flying log book of Flight Lieutenant Jaggs, containing entries dated between 8 April 1940 and 5 November 1943. This log book covers the period of Flight Lieutenant Jaggs’ observer training and service with 12 Squadron in Australia, and service with 30 Squadron in New Guinea. The entries record details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, pilots, purposes of flights, and additional notes. Some of the recorded purposes of flights include wireless operator training, navigation training, bombing training, gunnery training, cooperative exercises with the army, patrols, cross country flights, aerial photography, strafing operations in New Guinea, transportation, anti-shipping strikes, and reconnaissance. This log book also contains assessments for courses completed by Flight Lieutenant Jaggs.

Wallet 2 of 2 – Consists of one flying log book of flight Lieutenant Jags, containing entries dated between 23 November 1943 and 8 May 1970. This log book covers the period of Flight Lieutenant Jaggs’ pilot training, time as a staff member of a wireless air gunner school, and post-war recreational flying. The entries record details such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, pilots, and purposes of flights. Some of the recorded purposes of flights include elementary flying training, service flying training, and the instruction of pupils in wireless air gunnery. This log book also contains assessments for courses completed by Flight Lieutenant Jaggs, and several receipts for flying sessions at Schutt Aircraft Flying Academy, Cheltenham, Victoria, in 1970.
