Collection relating to the service of Henry Joseph Erb RAAF
Description
Informal portrait Trooper (later 414665 Flying Officer (FO)) Henry Joseph (Joe) Erb, 2nd Light Horse Regiment. FO Erb enlisted in the RAAF on November 1941 and completed two operational tours against German targets. On one mission over the Ruhr, he was wounded in the head by anti-aircraft fire, but refused to leave his turret until the aircraft safely crossed the English Channel. For his actions he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 19 January 1945. He was discharged from the RAAF on 8 October 1945.
