Informal portrait of 460607 Flying Officer John (Jock) Fraser Swain RAAF. Flt Lt Swain enlisted on 18 September 1940 and whilst serving with 200 Squadron RAF in 1942 he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for a bombing attack on a submarine in the Atlantic Ocean. Swain was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) and served with No. 23 Squadron. Flt Lt Swain died in a ground accident in Darwin, NT, on 7 October 1945, aged 25 years.
