Studio portrait of 3511A Private Joshua Ismay 3rd (later 53rd) Battalion of Willoughby, NSW. Son of Joshua and Margaret Anne Ismay, of Lane Cove, NSW. A carpenter prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. He was killed in action on 1 September 1918 in France, aged 27. He is buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
