Outdoor group portrait of of allied Prisoners of War (POW) at German POW Camp. Identified, left to right, back row: Gordon Ralph (Connaught Rangers), unidentified soldier (Wireless), Hans Rosanna (Belgian Army). Front row: 1504 Lieutenant Maurice Francis Burke and an unidentified soldier (Lancers). Lieutenant Maurice Francis Burke enlisted at the age of 28 on 11 August 1914 and served overseas in Rabaul with the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF). He returned to Australia and was discharged on 4 March 1915. He subsequently re-enlisted on 20 June 1915 and embarked for overseas on 10 November 1915 aboard HMAT Ascanius. He was captured on 2 March 1917 at Le Transloy, France, where he received a hand grenade splinter wound to the right forearm and both legs. After being held in several POW Camps in Germany, he was repatriated to England on 4 December 1918, and married Hilda Florence Derry on 17 December 1918. On the verso of postcard, the original caption reads "For Miss Derry".
