Description

Original typed manuscript titled "The Thousand Odd Nights" written by NX29594 Signalman Hubert Joseph Head. This manuscript details Head's experiences as a Japanese Prisoner of War in Changi (Selarang), on various working parties including the Serangoon Road Party. He was admitted into hospital in 1943 and then sent as part of 'G Force' to Taisho camp in Osaka to work in an ironworks factory. There he was admitted into hospital again. He was a Prisoner of War in Japan until its liberation in 1945. Also included within the front cover is a newspaper clipping from 20 June 1981 titled "Full recovery impossible for POWs, doctor says". A black and white photocopy of the manuscript is held in the Private Records Collection, PR01687. Head's manuscript was published in 1996 by CopyRight Publishing, with the title 'The Thousand Odd Nights'. Copy of the publication is held in the Monograph Collection, call number 940.547252 H432T.
