Gray, Alfred (4203, Private, 14 Battalion)
Description
"In the Hands of the Hun: Experiences of Private Alfred Gray, of Kyneton". First World War memoirs by 4203 Private Alfred Grey who served with the 14th Battalion. He trained in Egypt and was sent to the Somme, wounded by shrapnel and hospitalised. He was sent back to the front line, surrendered on the Hindenberg line and was taken as a prisoner of war. Taken to various camps including Fort MacDonald, Dullmen and Gustrow where he worked on farms and railways and finally he worked at a gas works in Hamburg until the war ended. Includes additional historical notes from his family.
