History / Summary

Associated with Corporal H L Skinner, AEME. Born at Leeton NSW on 12 August 1921, Harold Leonard Skinner was studying engineering when he enlisted in the Second AIF on 5 December 1941. Corporal Skinner served with the Australian Army Ordnance Corps (AAOC), and later with the Australian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (AEME), and saw action in the South West Pacific, including Papua New Guinea. Harold Skinner died in 1990. His grandfather Henry Edward 'Harry' Skinner served in the Sudan with the British Royal Marines and in the First World War with 4 Battalion, AIF. His father, Francis Leonard (Len) Skinner, and brother, Laurence Frederick 'Laurie' Skinner, both served with the Australian Army during the Second World War. His second brother, Roy Edwin Skinner served with the Citizen Military Forces (militia) and later the Australian Regular Army and saw extensive service with the United Nations in the Middle East.
