Description
An RAF Westland Whirland helicopter (XP361, aircraft identification letter N) on a road at a kampong unloading personnel and supplies for the company base at Gumbang occupied by A Company, 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (4RAR) between April and September 1966. The garrison at Gumbang relied heavily on helicopter re-supply to sustain their operations. This was the most southerly of the 4RAR company positions and was located on a ridge line close to the Sarawak-Kalimantan border and a major Indonesian infiltration route.
