Description

A Westland Scout helicopter approaches the helipad at the company base at Gumbang occupied by A Company, 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (4RAR) between April and September 1966. The garrison at Gumbang relied heavily on helicopter re-supply to sustain their operations however, the helipad at Gumband could only accept light and medium helicopters. This was the most southerly of the 4RAR company positions and was located on a ridge line close to the Sarawak-Kalimantan border and a major Indonesian infiltration route.
