Informal portrait of 1098 Trooper (Tpr) Leslie Harry Carey, 9th Light Horse Regiment, of Burra, South Australia. A labourer prior to enlistment, Tpr Carey embarked on board HMAT Morea on 26 August 1915. He served at Gallipoli and in Palestine. On 1 May 1917 Tpr Carey, aged 22, accidentally drowned while swimming at Dier el Belah in Palestine.
